Montsweag Brook Restoration Public Meeting Scheduled
Bangor, ME – October 26, 2009 -- Landowners in the Montsweag Brook area and other interested parties will have an opportunity to hear about and provide input concerning the Montsweag Brook Restoration Project and the associated dam removal that is being proposed. On Wednesday, November 4th, the Chewonki Foundation, in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will hold a public meeting at the Chewonki Foundation’s Center for Environmental Education, from 6-8 p.m., to present an overview of the project and the plan description, and provide an opportunity for public input as required by the Federal environmental evaluation process. A feasibility study about the project can be reviewed at: http://www.chewonki.org/about/montsweag.asp. The Center for Environmental Education is located at 485 Chewonki Neck Road, Wiscasset. There are 17 acres that are currently submerged under the permanent pool of Montsweag Dam impoundment, which is located in the St. George-Sheepscot River Watershed.
