MAINE BULLETIN NO. ME 180-8-4

                                                                                        October 18, 2007

SUBJECT: CPA – FSA GIS Wetland Points layer

Purpose: To provide the Field Offices with the FSA definitions for the Wetland Points Symbology and Disclaimer on the Common Land Unit (CLU) maps.

Expiration Date: September 30, 2008

Farm Service Agency (FSA) sent out two notices (Notice CP-614 in April) and (Notice CP-620 in September) regarding wetland determinations and points symbology. Blue dots representing NRCS wetland determinations on FSA maps were changed to red, yellow, and green wetland determination identifiers on FSA maps beginning in May 2007. There is also a Fact Sheet and PowerPoint to help explain this change. The FSA maps with these symbols and NOT intended to replace the official USDA Wetland Determination maps. The wetland determination identifiers do not represent the size, shape, exact location or exact category of wetland determinations. These maps are NOT used for wetland conservation compliance.

Retain all new and existing AD1026s, wetland determinations and corresponding wetland maps with size, shape, exact location or exact wetland determination category (W, FW, PC, etc.) in the producer’s case file.

FSA producer maps also now include the following disclaimer: "Wetland identifiers do not represent the size, shape, or specific determination of the area. Refer to your original determination (CPA-026 and attached maps) for exact wetland boundaries and labels, or contact NRCS".

If you have any questions concerning the FSA legend for wetland points, contact Jim Johnson, Resource Conservationist at 207-990-9508 or email jim.johnson@me.usda.gov.
