The sign-up period cut-off date for the Conservation Stewardship
Program (CSP) has been extended to January 27, 2012. Producers interested in CSP
should submit applications to their local NRCS office by the deadline so
that their applications can be considered during the first ranking
period of 2012.

In response to the educational needs of new farmers, a group of
agencies have joined forces to develop a comprehensive workshop series
to be held every Tuesday beginning January 31 and ending March 13,
2012 in Lewiston. A new farmer is considered as one in the farming
business less than 10 years or haven't started yet. There will be
seven workshops.

Maine NRCS is accepting applications for irrigation assistance to
private landowners through the Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA)
program. Funding is being made available to both large-and
small-scale irrigators. The deadline for applications is
February 10, 2012.

Funded through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program,
three ranking dates have been set for the On-Farm Energy, Organic, and
Seasonal High Tunnel initiatives for Fiscal Year 2012: February 3,
March 30 and June 1, 2012. All three initiatives offer technical
and financial assistance.

To help protect working agricultural lands in Maine, nearly $1
million will be available to successful Maine applicants this year
through the agency's Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP).
Applications received by March 23, 2012 will be considered for
funding this fiscal year.
